Water Safety Saves Lives
National Guide to Public Pools & Aquatic Centres 2017/18 – Released
Drowning is the greatest cause of accidental death for young children in Australia. Being aware of the dangers and ensuring children are safer in and around water, are critical elements in helping to prevent children from becoming a drowning statistic. To help in providing water safety information nation-wide, Pro-Visual Publishing, in partnership with the Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA), has released the 2017/18 edition of the National Guide to Public Pools & Aquatic Centres.
This year’s guide covers public pools safety and the safer swimming story, which includes key messages on the adoption of the four layers of protection. These layers of protection include – Be Aware, Be Secure, Be Confident and Be Prepared – and must be implemented at all times in order to prevent tragedies from occurring.
Water safety is a major concern for all Australians. It is the responsibility of all adults to ensure that children are well supervised at public pools and aquatic centres at all times. While lifeguards play a pivotal position in supervision at public pools, it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain and ensure the safety of children.
“I would like to thank all of the sponsors of the National Guide to Public Pools & Aquatic Centres 2017/18. Their support has made it possible for the guide to be distributed free of charge” – John Hutchings, CEO, Pro-Visual Publishing.
