That Wasn’t on my 2026 Scorecard

And we are off and running into 2026!

And here we are, only 5 days in and that world of certainty has been torched already, plans have been changed and altered, and that Caribbean cruise you were dreaming about doesn’t seem so appealing now! https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/03/world/americas/venezuela-maduro-capture-trump.html

It is obvious from peoples reaction that most never expected the year to start this way, because most organisations rely upon certainty.

This is currently a VUCA world we are living in. Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous ( https://safetyrisk.net/kiss-safety-in-a-vuca-world/ ). What we consider normal is changing rapidly in directions hard to predict with byproducts and trade-offs that are not foreseeable.

As the SPoR Swiss-cheese model shows, whether it be Workspace, Headspace or Groupspace nothing is linear and very little is ever guaranteed or predictable.

So how will your organisation build resilience? How will it understand world events and translate them into something meaningful in the workplace? Will you continue to ignore what happens outside the company four walls and merely hope for the best?

How will your organisation approach Social Influence?

Matt Thorne from Risk Diversity is holding ‘Social psychology Event Exploration Knowledge’ (SEEK) in Brisbane commencing March 4th 2026. https://events.humanitix.com/seek-social-psychology-event-exploration-knowledge-understanding-and-investigating-events-and-incidents

The Risk Diversity SEEK (Social psychology Event Exploration & Knowledge)

Program is an event investigation program based on the foundations of a social psychology of risk.

The program is unique as it applies the key principles of the social psychologyof risk to the way events are investigated. The Program assumes that events and investigations are conditioned by social arrangements and that social arrangements are a significant determinant on decision making and behaviours.

The SEEK program adds value to already existing incident investigation strategies and complements traditional strategies with adding a strong focus on:

  • The bias of the investigator
  • The decision making of the participants
  • Social arrangements
  • Culture of the organization and,
  • Human contributing factors to events

This is going to help those who investigate events, be it incidents, HR investigations, or those who want to get more out of learning from both negative and positive events. Leaders who want better questioning techniques and greater understanding of the people they work with.
