This is a conversation between Greg Smith, Desai Link, Craig Ashhurst and Rob Long on the vital question of: What is Justice in Safety?
You can see the video here: https://vimeo.com/1201619888
It was good to tackle this question with lawyers and with Craig to flesh out the critical issues, nuances, understandings and critical issues in Justice. I facilitated the discussion.
As each spoke it was interesting to note the language being used and some of the key metaphors, figurative language and related terms that surfaced in the discussion. Here are some examples:
- Eye of the beholder
- Procedural fairness
- Nuance
- Binary
- Theatre/stage
- Language of justice
- Public outcry
- Just culture
- Politics
- Being seen to be done
- Doctrine
- Maturity
- Psychosocial
We will pick up on this discussion in another two weeks and develop some of the issues raised in a second video particularly with a focus on the idea of just culture and psychosocial risk.
The purpose of this first video is not so much to provide answers as to surface issues, particularly with how lawyers consider the nature of jurisprudence and the legal system.
We hope you find the video conversation helpful.
