Ten Don’ts and Ten Do’s For Safety

Don’t:

  1. Get stuck in paperwork or behind a computer
  2. Read safety texts
  3. Play lawyer
  4. Lecture, preach or guru safety
  5. Stand out as a safety ‘geek’
  6. Get fooled by safety myths and marketing
  7. Believe in zero or perfection
  8. Focus on objects and metrics
  9. Use the discourse, language of ‘profession’ and ‘performance’
  10. Get fooled by measures, metrics and stats

Do:

  1. Develop people skills
  2. Learn the art of engagement
  3. Learn about open questioning
  4. Engage ethically with persons
  5. Focus on the social
  6. Motivate by modelling
  7. Be aware of social politics at work
  8. Mix and merge with the culture
  9. Study outside of Safety in Transdisciplines
  10. Be practical, positive and present
