Everything about being human communicates. Our look, appearance, gestures, para-linguistics, rituals, myths, ceremonies and body movement all speak apart from written and spoken text. Indeed, the human person is a living text. Every metaphor we speak and all the figurative language we use, also speaks semiotically.

In the world of risk and safety one would expect there would be some interest in the structure, form, style, grammar, medium and unconscious in messaging. Yet, it seems that Safety is yet to discover that the medium is the message (McLuhan).
