Global Conference in SPoR – 13-17 May 2024 – Canberra

Everything to do with the SPoR Conference to be held in May in Canberra is going well.

In addition to our International presenters already announced (https://spor.com.au/canberra-convention/) we will also be joined by John Sherban from Canada. John is a practitioner with over 30 years International experience in risk and safety and has been studying and practicing SPoR for 5 years. This brings the number to eight international presenters who will be speaking on how they apply SPoR methods (https://www.humandymensions.com/product/spor-and-semiotics/) in tackling risk.

The two themes running through the conference are Personhood and Everyday Social Resilience. The two modules are separated by a day of semiotic walks.

Anyone is welcome to join us for the conference as we already have a mixed group of first-time starters and experienced people from all over Australia who are practicing SPoR methods in their organisations.

The conference has no sponsors and we meet in a community centre that undertakes extensive work across Canberra in providing services to families, communities and individuals in need of support, helping, psychosocial services and care. Just the right setting for understand people at risk.

Dr Ashhurst will also be presenting on his work with SPoR in mining and his extensive work in Collective Coherence and risk with Government Organisations through the Australian National University. Gabrielle Carlton will be presenting on her work in organisations over the past 10 years on Everyday Social Resilience. The pic attached to this post is of Gab presenting her work.

The presentations will be in the form of workshops and will be practical, positive and focused on skill development in SPoR. Everyone will leave the conference with a practical suite of tools and methods that enable others to better tackle the challenges of risk in work.
