SAFETY TOPICS FOR MANAGEMENT MEETINGS

Employee safety is the topic that must be permanently on the agenda of top managers. Below are some statements that can generate constructive discussions and align the management team to a common safety vision.

Safety subjects to be discussed in your next management meeting:

  1. HAZARD. Under certain conditions, all the things and people around us can harm us. In short, this is the definition of danger. From the moment we are born until we die, every second of our lives, we are exposed to dangers.
  2. RISK. Taking risks means exposing yourself to various dangers or acting in unpredictable conditions with the belief and confidence that nothing bad will happen. All risk assessments are subjective. People have a different risk intelligence – iCue.
  3. WEARING PPE DOES NOT PROTECT YOU FROM ACCIDENTS. Accidents happen regardless of whether you wear protective equipment. The role of protective equipment is to reduce the impact of accidents on humans.
  4. ZERO RISK DOES NOT EXIST. Life involves taking risks. You can’t survive and evolve without risk. No matter what control and risk minimization measures we take, there is always a residual risk that we must live with.
  5. NOT ALL ACCIDENTS CAN BE PREVENTED. All people make mistakes, and some mistakes cause accidents. In addition, there are accidents that are due to natural phenomena, hidden defects or a complex of events that are impossible to detect and control.
  6. OBJECTIVE ‘ZERO ACCIDENTS. Managers who impose on their subordinates the impossible goal of “zero accidents” thus prove their incompetence and insult their intelligence. It is the surest way to lose the respect and trust of the people you coordinate.
  7. THE CULTURE OF LYING AND UNDER-REPORTING ACCIDENTS is largely generated by the conditioning of obtaining a part of the financial income to the achievement of the impossible, i.e. the “zero accidents” objective.
