Four videos

We recently completed our next book Following-Leading in Risk, A Supplement (https://www.humandymensions.com/product/following-leading-in-risk-a-supplement/) and so decided to support that book with four videos. You can view these videos here: https://vimeo.com/showcase/12452543

The videos give an outline of why we updated our book from 2014 Following-Leading in Risk, A Humanising Dynamic (https://www.humandymensions.com/product/following-leading-risk/) and the workshops series we recently completed with practitioners that informed the update of the original book.

So much has happened in the 12 years since we first wrote about the following-leading dynamic. This dynamic is all that happens in the hyphen between following and leading and is illustrated below.

What you have to do is imagine that this diagram represents much that happens between followers and leaders. This little hyphen – that joins following-leading is amplified and magnified in this diagram.

We call what happens between followers and leaders ‘The Zone of Reciprocal relationship’. This is critical to understand the nature of mutuality between followers and leaders. We have found that hierarchical (Jenga blocks) and linear (swiss-cheese) models of leadership, don’t work. This is why the word ‘following’ appears first in our joined words ‘following-leading’.

It is also critical to realise that the notion of ‘following-leading’ is active. This models steps away from the idea that there is just leadership without followership. Indeed, that the key to leading is following.

If you want to know about a different approach to leadership in risk then perhaps this two book series is for you. The free downloads are here:
