The facilitators of the program Dr Ashhurst and Dr Long will also have available their Second Edition and greatly updated, Following-Leading in Risk, A Humanising Dynamic (https://www.humandymensions.com/product/following-leading-risk/).
Ashhurst and Long look at following-leading through the active dynamic of dialectic, where following and leading interact in practice. This dialectic (constantly moving dialogue) is recognised by the hyphen between both words following-leading. The emphasis is not on traditional Leadership or Followership but rather on the active participles following-leading.
It is in this active space that SPoR put emphasis. Not on the qualities of leaders or other paradigms popular in Leadership discourse. Neither is there an emphasis on Leadership skills, qualities, roles, habits or traits one sees littered on LinkedIn. It seems on LinkedIn, everyone is a leader, everyone is an expert in leadership but so little discussion on the dynamic of following-leading. And, the hyphen joins the two words and make them one.
The outline for the workshops is as follows but as participants know, every person attending is given opportunity to present. This is often the highlight where people from all over the globe come and tell us how they are doing SPoR where they are.
In SPoR, we often talk about the following-leading dynamic. This is the name for what we know goes on in the hyphen. So, we magnify the hyphen and it looks like this:
We call this interactive dialectical space the Zone of Reciprocal Relationship (ZRR). These all interact to make following-leading dynamic. There is no following-leading without a focus on: ethics, the unconscious, paradigms, power, will, resilience, social contract and learning.
So, you can see why we call this ZRR a ‘dynamic’.
Without a consideration of these critical factors, it is not very likely that there will be any following or leading going on.
If you want to know more about SPoR, following-leading or otherwise want to interact with others practicing SPoR from all over the globe don’t hesitate to sign up.
