At the very heart of SPoR is the social aspect, and this drove the topics selected for this years’ conference, ‘Personhood, Personality and Risk’ and ‘Everyday Social Resilience’.
Monday and Tuesday we discussed Personhood, Personality and Risk which considered
- ‘Who is the Educated Person?’
- ‘Why is Personhood central to Ethics and Risk?’
- Embodied being and Personhood
- Personhood and E-Motion
The topics are split with the Semiotic Walk on the Wednesday to split up the learning adventure. This year we took in the Geoscience Centre, the National Sound and Film Archive, the Shine Dome, and the Sri Vishnu Shiva Mandir temple then Dinner at a local Thai restaurant.
On Thursday and Friday we explored and discussed ‘Everyday Social Resilience’
- every-day, Every-Day and Everyday
- What Resilience is not.
- Why Resilience must be Social
- Living, Being, Belonging, Becoming
- Moving forward, NOT ‘bouncing back’
As with all SPoR activities, true understanding comes from practical work in the room with guidance from who have been doing this for years.
SPoR is not passive, it is Social, Dissonant, understands it’s Ontology and Epistemology. We moved with the pace of the room, bringing everyone on the journey.
This year we had people from Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Portugal, New Zealand and people from every state in Australia!
The 2025 Conference, in Canberra, will be held from September 22-26.
Free Introductions to SPoR will be held again, on Zoom, in August available to individuals and Organisations who want to learn more. Details in a separate blog.
