Observations and Conversations Workshop – Edinburgh – 24 June

If I was ever lucky enough to get to Edinburgh I have a few things on my bucket list. For those who wish to join in a great program on Observation and Conversations skills with Dr Nippin Anand (https://novellus.solutions/mec-events/edinburgh25/ ), maybe you could tick a few off for me.

But let’s first talk about the program. The Observations and Conversations Workshop has been the most demanded program I have delivered over the past 20 years (https://www.humandymensions.com/services-and-programs/safety-observation-conversations-program/ ). So many want to know the basics of how to be a good observer and how to conduct effective conversations about risk, but don’t know how. This is the program to get you started.

We know from years and years of safety ‘telling’, that it doesn’t work. Lecturing is perhaps the worst strategy if one wants to achieve learning. Anyone with expertise in Education and Learning knows that one way information has little to do with learning. Similarly, they also know that training and the transfer of data also has nothing to do with learning. Regurgitating content is not learning.

In the Observations and Conversations Workshop the focus is on participation, experiential learning, engagement and skill development.

Having worked with Dr Nippin Anand in several countries I can highly recommend a facilitator with such engaging style and ability.

The Safety Observations Workshop has a focus on: human perception, motivation, behaviours, habits, culture, pressures on outcomes, dynamics in bias, managing the unexpected and, influencing skills through effective conversations.

This powerful program is a game changer for anyone in safety wishing to become more influential in helping others better tackle risk. The program gives a new awareness of human judgment and decision making, a keen sensitivity to observational knowing and skill development in conversation.

Now for the Edinburgh bucket list. Number one on my radar for 40 years has been the wish to see Rosslyn Chapel (https://www.rosslynchapel.com/). Next would be Edinburgh Castle (https://www.edinburghcastle.scot/). These two alone would probably take me several days to walk through semiotically. As much as I would be also tempted to go to a few makers of the best Single malt whiskey in the world, walk the Royal Mile or visit Loch Ness, these would have to wait.

If you decide to go to the workshop and fit in a few extra days for a semiotic walk, I am sure Nippin would be happy to take and extra day and teach you how to Semiotic Walk.
