Deadly Fishing Lures
This article isn’t about SAFETY, unless you are a fish, in which case it’s about as close to 100% Harm as you can get. But it is an article about RISK, its about chucking it all in, taking a big risk and following your passion – and recognising those who do.
I went to a party the other night and got talking to a group of blokes about one of my passions – fishing . We were busy telling lies about our exploits with one bloke telling us how he was recently out in the middle of Port Phillip Bay on a kayak when he hooked a shark! We were all like geezz, crikey, you were bloody lucky………….the a lady came over and said “Brad makes fishing lures”. Brad had been standing in our circle just sipping on a Corona, not saying much, then he came alive! He enthralled us with his life story, how he had been a beekeeper in Northern NSW for most of his life. He and his brother were keen fisherman and used to make their own soft plastic lures, being unsatisfied with the commercial range which were mostly made in China. They gave a few to their mates who loved them and word quickly got around. Recently the two brothers decided to risk it all, to chuck in their careers and go into production of fishing lures full-time. The look of trepidation on Brad and his new Partner’s face said it all when we asked “so how’s it going”. Of course, as Aussies do, we all then barraged him with marketing ideas and names of people who we knew who knew people who knew people.
I know many of the readers of this blog also love fishing so I decided that as Brad was such a humble, all round top bloke and fellow risk taker that I would give him a little plug here. In my work I am lucky enough to visit many small businesses started in garages with an idea and money borrowed from relatives and then grown into a successful enterprise through a little luck, imagination, hard work, guts and considerable risk taking – they are also unconstrained by corporate policies, systems, controls and bureaucracy – these little enterprises, their achievements and their contributions should be recognised and celebrated!
So if you are a keen or even an occasional fisherman, would like a little more success on your next outing and would like to support a great bloke having a go then check out the website of ASSAULT TACKLE – HAND MADE AUSSIE SOFT PLASTIC LURES – FISH BEWARE!
